Google Business Profiles Get Automatic Facebook Messenger Links: What Clinics Should Check
Google is emailing businesses that it has added Facebook Messenger m.me links to their Business Profiles. What UAE clinics should check, replace or staff now.
Google has started emailing some businesses to say it is automatically adding Facebook Messenger (m.me) links to their Google Business Profiles, Search Engine Roundtable reported on 28 October 2026. An m.me link opens a chat with the business's Facebook Page. Google has not said which countries are affected. If your clinic's profile gets one, check that it points to your real Page and that someone answers Messenger; Google's help page says you can replace an auto-added link, but removing it means contacting support.

What happened
On 28 October 2026, Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google is emailing business owners to tell them it is adding Facebook Messenger m.me links to their Business Profiles. The report followed a post on X by Darcy Burk, who shared one of the emails and asked whether others were seeing a wave of them.
Barry Schwartz, who wrote the report, said he did not recall Google adding m.me links to profiles before, so this may be new. An m.me link opens a direct chat with a Facebook Page inside Messenger.
What is not known yet:
- Which countries are getting the emails. The report does not say.
- How Google picks which Facebook Page to link.
- Whether Google has published any announcement. We found none as of this morning.
What Google's own help page says
Google's help page Manage social media links on your Business Profile already covers automatic links. In short:
- Google can add links itself. Some profiles show social media links automatically if they meet certain requirements.
- You can replace, not simply delete. If Google adds a link, you can swap it for a different one. To remove it completely, the page says you need to contact Google support.
- One link per platform. One Facebook link, one Instagram link, and so on.
- Supported platforms. The page lists Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X and YouTube. As checked on 29 October 2026, Messenger is not listed as a separate platform.
- No click data. Google does not give performance metrics or click counts for social media links.
- Select regions only. Social links are not available on every profile.
Why it matters for clinics
For a clinic, every contact button on the Business Profile is a door patients use. Call, website, booking and, in many UAE clinics, WhatsApp. A Messenger link adds another door. That is only good if someone is standing behind it.
Three risks to check:
- Unanswered chats. If nobody monitors the clinic's Facebook Page inbox, a patient who taps Messenger waits, gets no reply and books elsewhere.
- The wrong Page. Clinics often have an old Page, a Page per branch, or a Page made by a former agency. If Google links the wrong one, enquiries go to an inbox nobody reads.
- Health details in chat. Patients often describe symptoms in their first message. Decide who answers, how fast, and how conversations move to your booking system, in line with your facility's patient data policies.
What to do this week
- Check your inbox and your profile. Look for an email from Google about a new link, then open your profile and go to Edit profile, then Contact, then Social profiles.
- Confirm the Facebook link. Make sure it is your current, official Page for that branch. If it is wrong, replace it with the right link using Edit next to Social profiles.
- Decide if you want Messenger at all. If your team handles enquiries on WhatsApp or by phone, a Messenger door you do not staff does more harm than good. If you want it gone completely, Google's help page says to contact Business Profile support.
- If you keep it, staff it. Turn on Messenger notifications for the person who handles bookings, set an away message with your phone and WhatsApp number, and give the team a short reply template.
- Track it. Google gives no click data for social links, so ask new patients how they found you, and tag Messenger enquiries separately from Google Ads leads.
- Check every branch. Multi-branch groups should review each profile. Our guide on why a clinic is not showing on Google Maps covers other profile settings worth checking at the same time.
Our take
This is small, but it is the kind of change Google makes to profiles without asking, and it touches the moment a patient decides to contact you. Most UAE clinics we see get their best leads from calls and WhatsApp, so a Messenger link is only useful if it is answered as fast as those. Five minutes checking your profile is enough.
