Why is my clinic not showing on Google Maps?
Clinic not showing on Google Maps? Diagnose verification, suspension, category, distance and prominence problems, with fixes from Google's own guidelines.
A clinic usually does not show on Google Maps for one of five reasons: the Business Profile is not verified, it has been suspended for breaking Google's guidelines (often a keyword-stuffed name or a wrong address), the primary category is wrong, the searcher is too far away, or competitors are more prominent through more reviews and links. Search your exact clinic name first. If you do not appear even then, it is a profile problem. If you appear for your name but not for "dentist near me", it is a ranking problem.

First, a 2-minute diagnosis
| What you see | Likely cause | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| Not found even when you search your exact clinic name | Unverified, suspended, duplicate or never published | Fixes 1 and 2 |
| Found by name, but not for "dental clinic near me" next door | Category, relevance or prominence | Fixes 3 and 4 |
| Found nearby, but not 3 km away | Distance: normal behaviour | Fix 5 |
| Was showing, then disappeared | Suspension after an edit, or a guideline issue | Fix 2 |
Fix 1: verify and complete the profile
Google says verification makes a business more likely to appear in results, and that complete, accurate details (address, hours including holiday hours, category and attributes) help you show for relevant searches (Google Business Profile Help).
- Verify the profile with the owner account, not a former agency's or employee's login.
- Use the address that appears on your DHA, DoH or MOHAP facility licence, with the correct building and floor.
- Add hours for Ramadan and public holidays when they change.
- Add real photos of the entrance, signage, reception and treatment rooms.
Fix 2: check for guideline problems and suspensions
Google's guidelines say breaking the name, address or content rules could result in suspension (Guidelines for representing your business). The usual clinic mistakes:
- Keyword-stuffed name. "Smile Clinic Best Dentist Dubai Implants Veneers" breaks the rule that the name must reflect the real-world name. Use the name on your signage and licence.
- Virtual or shared address. A virtual office is not eligible. Practitioners must be reachable in person at the verified location during stated hours.
- Duplicate profiles. One location gets one profile. Merge or remove old duplicates.
- Doctor profiles done wrong. Public-facing doctors can have their own profile, using only the doctor's name, but a practitioner should not have multiple profiles for different specialities. A solo doctor at a branded clinic shares one profile named "[Clinic]: [Doctor name]".
- Call-centre or premium numbers. The phone number should reach that location and be controlled by the business.
If the profile is suspended, fix every issue first, then use the appeal option in your Business Profile with documents that match it exactly: trade licence, facility licence, utility bill and photos of permanent signage (Search Engine Land on appeals). A sloppy appeal can be refused, so get it right the first time.
Fix 3: the right primary category
Google says to pick as few categories as possible, as specific as possible, describing what the business is, not what it has. "Dental clinic" or "Cosmetic dentist" beats "Medical clinic" for a dental practice. A home care company is not a "Hospital". Your primary category is the strongest relevance signal you set yourself.
Fix 4: become more prominent
- Reviews. Google names review count and rating as part of prominence. See how to get more Google reviews.
- Links. Google says prominence is also influenced by how many websites link to you. Get listed on your insurers' provider directories, professional bodies and local press.
- Website. A page per main treatment, with your name, address and phone exactly as on the profile. See our local SEO checklist.
- Respond to reviews and add photos, both on Google's own list of ranking tips.
Fix 5: accept distance, then use ads
Distance is one of the three ranking factors and you cannot change where you are. A clinic in Al Barsha will rarely rank in the free map results for someone searching in Deira or Sharjah. That is where Google Ads location assets and local campaigns come in: they put your clinic on Maps and Search for people further away, for the treatments you choose. Frequently asked questions
Why does my clinic show on Google Search but not on Maps?
Usually the profile is unverified, suspended or duplicated, or Maps is ranking closer clinics first. Search your exact name in the Maps app to tell the difference.
Can I pay Google to rank higher on Maps?
No. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Ads appear in a separate, labelled sponsored position.
Can I add "Dubai" or treatment names to my clinic name on Google?
Only if they are part of your real-world name on signage and licence. Adding keywords breaks Google's guidelines and can lead to suspension.
Should each doctor have a Google profile?
Public-facing doctors can, using only their name. If you are a solo doctor at a branded clinic, share one profile named "[Clinic]: [Doctor]".
How long does it take to show on Maps after verification?
A verified profile can appear for your name quickly, but ranking for competitive searches takes reviews, links and a strong website over time.
