Dental SEO: The Local SEO Checklist for Dental Clinics
Dental SEO and local SEO for dentists: Google Business Profile rules, reviews, treatment pages, Dentist schema and what a dental SEO company should report.
Dental SEO is getting your clinic into Google's map pack and organic results for searches like "dentist near me", "dental implants Dubai Marina" or "emergency dentist open now". Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, so the work is: a complete, verified Google Business Profile, a steady flow of genuine reviews, one strong page per treatment and per location, consistent clinic details everywhere, and Dentist structured data. Expect 3 to 6 months before rankings move in a competitive city.

How Google ranks dentists locally
Google's own local ranking help page names three factors:
- Relevance: how well your profile and website match the search. Fix with categories, services and treatment pages.
- Distance: how far you are from the searcher. You cannot change this, but location pages and accurate addresses make sure Google knows exactly where you are.
- Prominence: how well known you are, based partly on links to your site and on review count and ratings.
Google also states that you cannot pay for a better local ranking. Ads appear above the map pack, but they do not lift your organic position. That is why most clinics run Google Ads and SEO together: ads for immediate bookings, SEO for cheaper patients over time.
The dental local SEO checklist
Google Business Profile (do these first)
- Verify the profile. Unverified profiles rank poorly and can be edited by anyone.
- Use your real-world name only. "Smile Dental Clinic", not "Smile Dental Clinic | Best Implants Dubai Marina". Google's guidelines ban taglines, service descriptions and location details in the name, and profiles that break the guidelines can be suspended.
- Primary category "Dentist", with secondary categories (for example Orthodontist, Cosmetic dentist or Pediatric dentist) only if you genuinely offer them by licensed practitioners.
- Add every service with a short plain description.
- Hours, including holidays. Update for Ramadan hours and public holidays in the UAE.
- Photos: exterior with signage (helps patients find you), reception, treatment rooms, team. Add new ones monthly.
- Booking link and WhatsApp/phone tested on mobile.
- Attributes: wheelchair access, parking, languages, as available.
- Weekly posts: availability, new dentist, seasonal check-ups. No exaggerated claims.
Dentist profiles: practice vs practitioner
Google allows individual practitioners, including dentists, to have their own profile if they are public-facing and can be contacted at the verified location. Rules that trip clinics up:
- A dentist gets one profile only, not one per specialty.
- With several dentists at one location, the clinic has its own profile and each dentist's profile title contains only the dentist's name.
- A solo dentist under a clinic brand shares one profile, named "Brand: Dentist name".
- Support staff should not have profiles.
- Virtual offices are not eligible.
Practitioner profiles can collect reviews meant for the clinic and can outrank it. Decide deliberately which profiles you want.
Reviews
- Ask every patient after the visit with a direct review link (WhatsApp or SMS works well in the UAE).
- Never offer discounts, gifts or entries in a draw for reviews. Google's contribution policy also bans asking only happy patients and setting staff review quotas.
- Reply to every review within a few days. Do not confirm the person is a patient or mention treatment; thank them and invite them to contact the clinic directly.
- Aim for a steady flow (several a week) rather than bursts, which look unnatural.
- In the US, the FTC rule on consumer reviews (2024) also bans buying reviews and suppressing negative ones, with penalties up to $51,744 per violation.
Website: treatment and location pages
- One page per treatment: implants, clear aligners, veneers, whitening, root canal, crowns, children's dentistry, emergency dentist, check-up and cleaning.
- Each treatment page answers: what it is, who is suitable, step-by-step process, number of visits, recovery, risks, price range with conditions, insurance, FAQs, the dentist who performs it, and a booking button.
- One page per location if you have several branches, with unique content: address, map, parking, nearby landmarks, team at that branch, hours. Do not create pages for areas where you have no clinic.
- Dentist bio pages with licensed title, licence authority, qualifications, languages and photo. Google says trust matters most for health topics and recommends clear bylines and author background in its helpful content guidance.
- Medical review line on clinical pages: "Reviewed by Dr [name], [licensed title], [date]".
- Title tags like "Dental Implants in Jumeirah | Smile Dental Clinic". Keep keywords in titles, not in your Business Profile name.
- Arabic pages for top treatments if you serve Arabic-speaking patients, with hreflang tags.
Technical basics
- Pages load fast on a phone over mobile data. Compress images; before-and-after galleries are the usual culprit.
- HTTPS everywhere, no broken links, clean XML sitemap submitted in Search Console.
- Click-to-call phone numbers in the header.
- No pixels on booking confirmation pages that reveal treatments (privacy).
Structured data
Google's LocalBusiness documentation asks you to use the most specific subtype. For a dental clinic that is Dentist. Required: name and address. Recommended: telephone with country code, url, geo with at least 5 decimal places, openingHoursSpecification and priceRange. Use department for distinct units. Do not mark up your own Google reviews with aggregateRating; Google supports that only for sites that review other businesses. Test with the Rich Results Test.
Citations and links
- Keep name, address and phone identical on your website, Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places, insurer directories and medical directories.
- In the UAE, make sure insurer provider lists show your current address and phone.
- Earn real local links: community events, school talks, local news features, partner GP and orthodontist websites, building or mall directories.
- Avoid paid link packages. They waste money and risk penalties.
Keyword map for a dental clinic
| Intent | Example searches | Page that should rank |
|---|---|---|
| Near me / general | dentist near me, dental clinic Al Barsha | Home page and Business Profile |
| Urgent | emergency dentist Dubai, toothache dentist open now | Emergency page |
| High-value treatment | dental implants cost Dubai, Invisalign Dubai Marina | Treatment page with prices |
| Cosmetic | veneers price, teeth whitening near me | Treatment page with consented case photos |
| Family | kids dentist JLT, pediatric dentist | Children's dentistry page |
| Insurance | dentist accepting [insurer] Dubai | Insurance page listing accepted plans |
| Questions | does root canal hurt, how long do implants last | FAQ sections or articles reviewed by a dentist |
What a dental SEO company should report
If you hire a dental SEO company, monthly reports should show: map pack positions for 20 to 30 tracked keywords from several points in your area, Business Profile calls, direction requests and website clicks, organic sessions to treatment pages, booking form submissions and calls from organic traffic, new reviews and average rating, and work completed. Rankings without bookings are not a result. Our guide to choosing a medical marketing agency lists the questions to ask and red flags, including any promise of guaranteed rankings.
Dubai and UAE specifics
- Advertising rules apply to your website and social content too. The DHA medical advertising standard bans "the best", "100%", "painless"-style absolute claims and sets rules for before-and-after photos. Keep SEO copy factual.
- Use licensed titles exactly as on the DHA (or DoH, MOHAP) licence on bio pages and in schema.
- Area names matter: patients search by community (Jumeirah, JLT, Mirdif, Al Nahda). Mention the areas you genuinely serve and nearby landmarks on location pages.
- Building names and floor numbers are part of the address. Put them in your Business Profile and on the website the same way.

Frequently asked questions
How long does dental SEO take to work?
Business Profile fixes can show results within weeks. New treatment pages and review growth usually take 3 to 6 months to move rankings in a competitive city, longer for high-value terms like implants.
What is the most important local SEO factor for dentists?
Google names relevance, distance and prominence. In practice, a complete verified Business Profile with the right category and a steady flow of genuine reviews moves map rankings most, followed by strong treatment pages on your website.
Should each dentist have their own Google Business Profile?
Google allows it for public-facing dentists who can be contacted at the location. Each dentist gets one profile titled with their name only. Solo dentists under a clinic brand share one profile named "Brand: Dentist name".
Can I put keywords in my Google Business Profile name?
No. The name must match your real-world signage. Adding services or locations breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended.
Does Google Ads help my SEO rankings?
No. Google states you cannot pay for a better local ranking. Ads and SEO work side by side but are ranked separately.
How much does dental SEO cost?
It depends on the market and scope. Compare quotes by what is delivered each month (pages, profile work, links, reporting) and judge results by calls and bookings from organic search, not rankings alone.
