Dental Marketing: How to Get More Dental Patients

Dental marketing and advertising that fills chairs: real cost-per-lead benchmarks, a step-by-step plan, 30 practice marketing ideas and DHA ad rules.

Guide · 18 Oct 2026 · Access One

Quick answer

Dental marketing that fills chairs has four parts: a Google Business Profile that wins "dentist near me" searches, Google Search ads for high-value treatments (implants, aligners, emergency), a website with one page per treatment and visible prices, and a recall system that brings existing patients back every six months. Dental search ads average about $8 per click and $73 per lead in LocalIQ's 2026 benchmarks, so track booked patients, not clicks. In Dubai, every ad must also follow the DHA advertising standard.

Where new dental patients come from

Most new dental patients arrive through one of five doors. Know which ones you are paying for and which ones you are leaving shut.

The competition is real. Dubai alone had 4,162 licensed dentists in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Dubai Media Office. In a market that crowded, the clinic that is easiest to find, trust and book wins.

Dental advertising: what it costs

LocalIQ's 2026 benchmarks for dentists and dental services: 5.66% click-through rate, $8.00 average cost per click, 10.67% conversion rate, $72.97 average cost per lead. Treat these as a starting point. Implant and aligner keywords usually cost more than "dentist near me", and central Dubai areas cost more than outer suburbs.

Patient value maths

Before setting a budget, write down three numbers from your own books:

  • Booking rate: what share of enquiries become appointments. Measure it for a month; it depends heavily on how fast reception answers and calls back.
  • Show rate: what share of booked patients turn up.
  • First-year value: average revenue from a new patient in 12 months, including hygiene visits and treatment.

Example: at $73 per lead, a 50% booking rate and a 90% show rate, each new patient costs about $162. If first-year value is $500, every $1 in ads returns about $3 before clinical costs. An implant patient worth $2,500 can justify a much higher cost per lead, so split your campaigns by treatment.

The dental marketing plan, step by step

1. Fix the foundations (week 1 to 2)

  • Claim and complete your Google Business Profile: correct category ("Dentist", plus specialist categories only if true), hours, photos of the clinic and team, services, insurance accepted.
  • Make sure the phone is answered. Missed calls are the biggest leak in dental marketing. Track the missed-call rate weekly.
  • Add WhatsApp and online booking to every page.
  • Show your DHA (or other authority) licence details and each dentist's licensed title.

2. Build treatment pages (week 2 to 4)

One page per money treatment: implants, Invisalign or clear aligners, veneers, whitening, root canal, children's dentistry, emergency dentist. Each page needs who does it, what happens step by step, how long it takes, a price or price range with conditions, insurance notes, real FAQs and a booking button. These pages feed both SEO and ads. The dental SEO guide has the full local SEO checklist.

3. Launch Google Ads (week 3 onward)

Start with three campaigns: emergency (call-focused, short hours), high-value treatments (implants, aligners), and brand. Use exact and phrase match, location targeting of 3 to 8 km for general dentistry, and send each ad group to its matching treatment page. Full structure and keyword lists are in Google Ads for dentists and clinics.

4. Start a review routine (month 2)

Ask every patient, not just happy ones, with a short link sent by WhatsApp or SMS after the visit. Google's review policy bans discounts for reviews, selective asking and staff review quotas. Reply to every review without confirming that the reviewer is a patient or mentioning treatment details.

5. Recall and reactivation (always on)

Your cheapest new booking is an existing patient who has not been in for 12 months. Export a list of lapsed patients every month and contact them with a hygiene reminder. A practice with 3,000 lapsed records that reactivates 5% gets 150 visits without any ad spend.

30 dental practice marketing ideas that work

Online

  1. Add "Open today" and "Emergency appointments" posts to your Google Business Profile weekly.
  2. Upload 10 new real photos a month: team, rooms, equipment, reception.
  3. Publish a price range page. Patients compare prices before calling.
  4. Create a "What happens at your first visit" page and video.
  5. Record 60-second dentist introductions for each doctor page.
  6. Answer the top 20 questions patients ask at the front desk as FAQ pages.
  7. Run a Google Ads emergency campaign only during opening hours.
  8. Add a call extension and track calls longer than 60 seconds as conversions.
  9. Build a separate landing page per implant type or aligner brand you offer.
  10. Use Meta lead forms for whitening and veneers consultations.
  11. Create Arabic versions of your top pages if you serve Arabic-speaking patients.
  12. List your clinic on insurer provider directories and keep details identical.
  13. Get listed in your local chamber, mall or community directories (real links help local ranking).
  14. Post short "myth vs fact" videos answered by your dentists.
  15. Show before-and-after cases on your website only with written consent and a "results vary" disclaimer, as DHA requires.

Offline and in-clinic

  1. Offer school-holiday children's check-up slots.
  2. Partner with nearby offices for corporate dental days.
  3. Give every patient a printed next-appointment card and book the next visit before they leave.
  4. Run a family booking day: back-to-back slots for parents and children.
  5. Visit nearby nurseries and schools for oral hygiene talks.
  6. Build referral relationships with orthodontists, GPs and paediatricians.
  7. Put a QR code for reviews at reception (not tied to any reward).
  8. Train reception to ask "How did you hear about us?" and log the answer.
  9. Call every no-show the same day to rebook.
  10. Offer evening or weekend slots and advertise them clearly.
  11. Send a post-treatment check-in message the next day.
  12. Run a quarterly lapsed-patient reactivation campaign.
  13. Put clear exterior signage with phone number and hours.
  14. Sponsor a local sports team or community event.
  15. Track every idea for 60 days and keep only the ones that bring bookings.

Dental advertising rules to know

In Dubai, the DHA Standards for Medical Advertisement Content on Social Media apply to every licensed dental clinic and dentist. In practice:

  • Do not write "best dentist", "painless", "100% success" or "permanent results".
  • Before-and-after photos: same patient, same lens, no editing, disclaimer with risks.
  • Prices must be accurate with conditions stated. No fake limited-time offers.
  • Titles must match the DHA licence: a general dentist cannot advertise as an "implant specialist" unless licensed as one.
  • The medical director approves every ad, including influencer posts filmed in the clinic.

On Google, dental treatment ads are generally allowed, but prescription drug terms are not allowed in promotional ads outside the US, Canada and New Zealand (October 2025 update). Dental insurance is not a restricted category under Google's healthcare policy. For wider context, see the healthcare marketing playbook.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get more dental patients quickly?

The fastest route is Google Search ads on emergency and high-value treatment keywords, sent to matching landing pages, with every call answered. At the same time, contact lapsed patients from your own records; they book faster and cost nothing in ad spend.

What is the best advertising for dentists?

For most practices, Google Search ads and a strong Google Business Profile bring the highest-intent patients. Social media works best for cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers. Choose by treatment and track cost per booked patient.

How much should a dental practice spend on marketing?

Start from your target number of new patients and your measured cost per booked patient. With dental leads averaging about $73 in LocalIQ's 2026 data, a practice wanting 30 new patients a month at a 50% booking rate needs roughly 60 leads, or about $4,400 in ad spend, before fees.

Can dentists in Dubai advertise prices and offers?

Yes, if the prices are accurate, conditions are clear and offers can actually be honoured. The DHA standard bans misleading prices and time-limited deals that are not real.

Can I offer patients a discount for a Google review?

No. Google bans incentives for reviews and may remove them. Ask every patient for an honest review instead.
