From 30 October, Clinics Are Responsible for Whatever Meta's AI Does to Their Ads
Meta's new Commercial Terms from 30 October make businesses solely responsible for what its AI changes in their ads. What UAE clinics must switch off now.
Meta's revised Commercial Terms take effect on 30 October 2026. A new "AI Features" section says businesses are solely responsible for what Meta's AI features create or change in their ads, and that those features may make mistakes. There is no signature. If you keep advertising after the date, Meta treats that as accepting the terms. For UAE clinics, the risk is an AI-added image edit, translation or claim that your regulator never approved. Before 30 October, go through every live campaign in Ads Manager and switch off the Advantage+ creative enhancements you don't want.

What is changing on 30 October
PPC Land reported on 22 October 2026, following Adweek, that Meta's updated Commercial Terms add a section on AI features. According to that reporting:
- The advertiser carries the risk. Businesses are "solely responsible" for AI features and the content they produce, including features Meta switches on itself.
- The opt-in condition is gone. The older wording applied when an advertiser chose to use Meta's ad creative AI. The new section no longer depends on that choice.
- Meta warns about mistakes. The terms say AI features "may make mistakes" and place the risks on the business.
- Acceptance by use. Continuing to use Meta's products for business after notice counts as agreement. If you don't agree, the alternative is to stop using them.
PPC Land notes that Meta's liability is capped at the greater of $100 or the fees paid in the previous 12 months. It also notes that Meta hasn't said how the terms apply to features an advertiser never switched on. A separate change switches on product browsing in existing ads on 28 October unless advertisers opt out. That mainly affects retailers with product catalogues.
Which AI edits are we talking about?
The reporting lists the kinds of changes Meta's AI makes to ads: added sitelinks, translated ad copy, images and carousels generated from a brand's photos, illustrations added to existing ads, and Advantage+ creative enhancements that change backgrounds, brightness, contrast and format. Agencies quoted by PPC Land say some enhancements were applied where nobody had enabled them, and some sit in collapsed menus that stay on unless each one is unchecked.
Why this is a bigger problem for clinics
Most brands risk an off-brand image. A UAE clinic risks breaking health advertising rules.
- Edited before-and-after photos. In Dubai, DHA conditions for before-and-after images include no editing or enhancement. An automatic brightness, contrast or background change on a patient photo can break that rule. See our guide to before-and-after photos in UAE clinic ads.
- Unapproved wording. A machine-written variation or translation can add a claim, a guarantee or a treatment name your approved ad never had.
- Arabic and English versions drifting apart. Auto-translated copy can say something different from the version you checked.
- Policy rejections. AI-generated images of bodies or skin can trip Meta's own health and personal attributes policies. See why Meta rejects clinic ads.
What to do before 30 October
- Audit every live ad. Open each campaign in Ads Manager and expand every creative enhancement and Advantage+ creative menu, including collapsed ones. Switch off anything that edits images, generates images, rewrites text or translates. Meta says individual Advantage+ features can be switched off at any time.
- Check what actually ran. Preview live ads in each placement. If a version shows edits you didn't approve, pause it and republish clean.
- Make it part of every launch. New campaigns can come with enhancements switched on, so check this every time you launch, not just once.
- Keep records. Save the approved creative, any regulator approval and the settings you used. If an AI variation causes a complaint, you will want proof of what you approved.
- Agree who checks. If an agency runs your ads, put the settings check in writing.
Frequently asked questions
When do Meta's new Commercial Terms start?
30 October 2026. Continuing to use Meta's products for business after notice counts as accepting them.
Am I responsible for changes Meta's AI makes to my ads?
According to the reporting on the new terms, yes. The AI Features section makes businesses solely responsible for AI features and their output, and Meta warns those features may make mistakes. Ask your own lawyer how this affects your clinic.
Can I turn off Meta's AI changes to my ads?
Yes, feature by feature. Meta says individual Advantage+ features can be switched off in Ads Manager. Check collapsed menus, because some options stay on unless unchecked.
Does this affect before-and-after photos?
It can. DHA conditions for before-and-after images in Dubai include no editing or enhancement, so automatic image enhancements on patient photos are a real risk. Switch them off on any campaign that uses clinical images.
Is the AI crawling clause part of the same change?
Yes, the same 30 October terms include a clause letting Meta crawl domains linked to a business's products. Meta has said it only applies to ads and business products. PPC Land reported that it could not find that limit in the preview text.
