NMC Healthcare Invests Dh150 Million in Abu Dhabi Clinics and Hospital Expansion
NMC Healthcare's Dh150m Abu Dhabi expansion adds clinics in Al Riyad City and Yas Mall and rebuilds Royal Hospital Khalifa City. What it means for local clinics.
NMC Healthcare has announced a Dh150 million programme to expand its facilities and specialist services across Abu Dhabi. New clinics in Al Riyad City and Yas Mall have already opened, a day care unit is open at NMC Specialty Hospital Abu Dhabi, and an urgent care centre is being built at NMC Royal Hospital Abu Dhabi. A five-year redevelopment of Royal Hospital Khalifa City will add more than 20 inpatient beds, 20 more outpatient rooms, an emergency department with more than 40 bays, and new orthopaedics and physiotherapy departments. For independent clinics in those areas, that means a bigger, better-funded competitor for the same local patients.

What NMC announced
Gulf News reported on 21 October 2026 that the investment is part of the growth strategy NMC launched a year ago. That strategy has four priorities: portfolio expansion, asset optimisation, operational improvements and service line growth.
| Project | Location | Status |
|---|---|---|
| New specialist clinic | Al Riyad City | Open |
| New specialist clinic | Yas Mall | Open |
| Day care unit | NMC Specialty Hospital Abu Dhabi | Open |
| NMC Mowj Child Development Medical Complex (children up to 8, designated Autism Treatment Hub) | Abu Dhabi | Open |
| Urgent care centre | NMC Royal Hospital Abu Dhabi | In development |
| Redevelopment: 20+ inpatient beds, 20 more outpatient rooms, 40+ emergency bays, maternity and paediatric upgrades, new orthopaedics and physiotherapy departments with separate gyms for men and women | Royal Hospital Khalifa City | Next phase, over five years |
The Mowj complex was set up with the Zayed Authority for People of Determination and the National Academy for Childhood Development. NMC chief executive David Hadley said the aim is to make it easier for patients and families to get care close to home.
Why this matters for clinics in Abu Dhabi
Large groups opening neighbourhood clinics change the local search results. When a hospital group adds a clinic in a mall or a growing suburb, it competes on the same searches as the independent clinic down the road: "pediatrician near me", "physiotherapy Khalifa City", "urgent care Yas Island". Hospital groups often bring larger ad budgets, strong Google Business Profiles and wide insurance networks.
- Physiotherapy and orthopaedics. New departments with dedicated gyms in Khalifa City will compete directly with stand-alone physio centres in Khalifa City, MBZ City and nearby areas. See how to get more physiotherapy patients.
- Paediatrics and child development. A designated autism hub and paediatric upgrades raise the bar for child development and paediatric clinics. See how to get more paediatric patients.
- Urgent care. More urgent care capacity means more competition for walk-in and after-hours searches.
How smaller clinics can compete
- Win the map pack. Complete your Google Business Profile with every service, opening hours, insurance accepted and recent photos. Keep reviews coming. See why your clinic is not showing on Google Maps.
- Bid on what you do best, where you are. Narrow location targeting and specific service keywords beat broad "clinic Abu Dhabi" campaigns against bigger budgets.
- Say what a big group cannot. Same-week appointments, the same therapist every visit, Arabic-speaking doctors, home visits. Put these in your ad text and on the landing page.
- Track calls and WhatsApp. If you cannot see which keywords bring booked patients, you cannot outspend smartly. See tracking phone calls from Google Ads in the UAE.
