Google Business Profile AI Messaging Expands: What Clinics Should Check Before Switching It On
Google is expanding AI-powered messaging in Business Profiles, letting an AI agent answer customer texts from Search and Maps. What clinics should check first.
Google is expanding AI-powered messaging for Business Profiles, Search Engine Roundtable reported on 29 October 2026. Customers can message a business from Search and Maps in their phone's own messaging app, and an AI agent answers routine questions at no cost, handing harder ones to the business. Google has not said which countries are included. If your clinic gets the invitation, fix your profile first: the agent can only answer from what your profile says.

What changed
Google first showed a Business Profile message button with an AI agent in June. On 29 October, Search Engine Roundtable reported that the feature has been updated and that Google appears to be opening it to more businesses. Local search expert Mike Blumenthal shared a Google email offering early access to the AI-powered messaging pilot at no cost.
A French local SEO blog, Yes We Blog, reported receiving the same invitation on 20 October, which suggests the pilot is not limited to the US. Google has not published a list of countries, so we cannot confirm UAE availability yet.
How it works
- Where patients see it: on your Business Profile in Google Search and Google Maps.
- How they message: through their phone's native messaging app, not a separate Google app.
- Who answers: an AI agent answers routine questions instantly. Questions it cannot answer are passed to you, and you can take over any conversation.
- Where you read messages: all conversations appear in your Business Profile.
- Limits: the AI agent only works for customers on networks and phones that support RCS. Other customers' texts go straight to your phone, and standard text rates may apply.
- How to turn it on: eligible businesses see a red dot on the Messages option in the Business Profile, which opens a welcome screen.
Why it matters for clinics
A lot of patients find a clinic on Maps, not on the clinic's website. Many of them have one quick question before they book: are you open now, do you take my insurance, do you treat children, is there parking. If nobody answers, they tap the next clinic on the map.
An agent that replies in seconds, at night and on weekends, can stop that leak. The risk is that it answers wrongly. As one practitioner quoted in the report put it, the agent can only answer as well as your profile does.
Healthcare adds a second risk. Patients may ask about symptoms, medicines or results. An AI agent should not be the one answering those, and anything said in your clinic's name still reflects on you and on your licence.
What to do now
- Check your profile for the invitation. Open your Business Profile and look for a red dot on Messages.
- Complete the profile before you switch it on. Hours (including holidays), every service you offer, doctors' specialties, languages spoken, booking link, phone and WhatsApp. Our guide on why a clinic may not show on Google Maps covers the profile basics.
- Add insurance information where you can. It is one of the first things UAE patients ask.
- Decide who takes over. Name a person at reception who watches handed-off conversations during opening hours and replies quickly.
- Review conversations weekly. Look for wrong answers and fix the profile data that caused them. Escalate any medical question to a clinician.
- Measure it. Count bookings that start from Business Profile messages so you know whether it is worth keeping.
This is the second messaging change to Business Profiles this week. Google is also adding Facebook Messenger links to some profiles automatically. Check both settings so patients reach you on the channel you actually monitor.
Our take
Fast answers win patients on Maps, and this feature could help small clinics compete with large hospital call centres. But switch it on only after your profile is complete and someone is watching the inbox. Access One manages Google Ads and Business Profiles for clinics across the UAE. Frequently asked questions
What is Google Business Profile AI-powered messaging?
It lets people message a business from Google Search and Maps using their phone's own messaging app. An AI agent answers routine questions for free and passes anything it cannot answer to the business, which can take over at any time.
Is it available in the UAE?
Google has not published a country list. Search Engine Roundtable reported on 29 October 2026 that access is expanding to more businesses through an early access pilot. Check the Messages option in your Business Profile for an invitation.
Does it work on every phone?
No. According to the pilot details reported, the AI agent works only for customers on networks and phones that support RCS. Messages from other customers go straight to the business phone, and standard text rates may apply.
Where does the AI agent get its answers?
From your Business Profile. If your services, hours or other details are wrong or missing, the agent's answers will be too, so keep the profile complete and current.
Should a clinic let an AI agent answer patients?
Only for routine questions such as hours, location, services offered and how to book. Medical questions should go to a qualified person, and the clinic should check conversations regularly.
