Why Is My GP Clinic Google Ads Not Getting Patients?

GP clinic Google Ads in Dubai not bringing patients? Show insurers and hours, target a tight area, use location assets, cut job and visa searches. Step by step.

Guide · 28 Oct 2026 · Access One

Access One is the healthcare-only Google Ads agency in Dubai and a Google Partner. This is the order we check a UAE GP clinic account in when this problem comes up. By Youssef Hajri, Founder.

Quick answer

GP patients in Dubai choose a clinic on three things: does it take my insurance, is it close, and is it open now. GP campaigns that get no patients usually hide those answers, target too wide an area, run when the clinic is closed, or pay for job, licensing and visa-medical searches. Fix tracking first, then put insurers and hours in the ads, add location and call assets, target a tight area with Presence, add negatives and send people to a page that shows today's hours and a booking button.

Quick diagnosis checklist

Check these against how a sick patient actually chooses a GP.

GP clinic: 10-minute check8 checks
  • Calls, WhatsApp, forms and booking clicks are tracked and tested.
  • Ads name the insurers you accept.
  • Ads and the page show opening hours, including evenings and weekends where true.
  • Location and call assets are on every campaign.
  • The area is tight around the clinic and set to Presence.
  • Ads run only when the clinic is open or booking is possible.
  • Negatives cover jobs, licensing, "free clinic", "government" and visa medicals (unless offered).
  • Your Google Business Profile is complete, with accurate hours.

The likely causes, ranked

  1. Insurance not answered. Most GP visits in Dubai go through insurance. An ad without insurers loses to one that names them.
  2. Too wide an area. Unwell people go to the nearest clinic that takes their insurance. Clicks from across the city rarely become visits.
  3. Running when closed. A late-night click to a closed clinic is wasted, and the patient goes elsewhere.
  4. Wrong searches. "GP jobs Dubai", "DHA exam GP", "free clinic", "government hospital" and visa medical searches all match loose GP keywords.
  5. Maps ignored. Many "doctor near me" searches end on Google Maps, which ranks on relevance, distance and prominence (Google on local ranking).

How to fix it, step by step

1. Track what counts

In Goals > Conversions > Summary, check call taps, website number taps, WhatsApp, forms and online booking clicks. Test each with Tag Assistant. Remember Google forwarding numbers are not available in the UAE. See tracking calls in the UAE.

2. Answer the three questions in the ad

  • Insurers: "Insurance accepted: Daman, Thiqa and Sukoon".
  • Hours: "Open until 10pm" or "Open Saturdays", where true.
  • Distance: add a location asset linked to your Business Profile, and a call asset.

3. Tighten the area

Under Campaigns > Locations, use a small radius around the clinic (radius targeting). In Settings > Locations > Location options, choose Presence (advanced location options).

4. Match opening hours

Under Campaigns > Ad schedule (Google's steps), run ads during opening hours, plus a short window before opening if people can book ahead online.

5. Add negatives

Under Tools > Shared library > Exclusion lists (negative keyword lists): jobs, salary, vacancy, "dha exam", license, licence, course, "free clinic", government, "medical fitness", "visa medical" (unless you offer it), "sick leave" (unless you issue it after a consultation). Then review Campaigns > Insights and reports > Search terms weekly (search terms report).

6. Build a GP landing page that books

Today's hours at the top, insurers accepted, doctors with DHA-licensed titles and languages, services (consultations, vaccinations, health checks, chronic disease follow-up), how to book, parking, and call, WhatsApp and booking buttons visible on a phone.

7. Fix Maps alongside

Complete your Business Profile with the right category, hours (including public holidays), insurers in the description and real photos. Ask every patient for a review, without incentives.

UAE and DHA specifics

  • Insurance networks decide. Be listed on your insurers' provider directories and say which networks you are in. Basic plans in Dubai follow the Essential Benefits Plan; check details in our health insurance guide.
  • Sick leave searches. In Dubai, sick leave certificates follow DHA rules and require a consultation. Do not advertise "sick leave" as a product. See our sick leave certificate guide.
  • DHA wording. No "best GP in Dubai" or "no waiting, guaranteed". Khaleej Times listed the banned words in 2026.
  • Chronic conditions. Follow-up care for diabetes or hypertension is a sensitive topic for targeting under Google's personalized advertising policy, so use keywords and location, not remarketing.
  • Languages. Name the languages your doctors speak. In Dubai that is often a deciding factor.

Fix it yourself, or have it fixed

Fixing a GP account takes tested tracking, ads that answer insurance, hours and distance, a tight area, an hours-matched schedule, negatives, a booking-focused page and a maintained Business Profile. A few weeks to set up, then weekly upkeep.

Fix it yourself

  • Fix and test tracking
  • Rewrite ads around insurers and hours
  • Tighten area and schedule
  • Build the GP page and fix your Business Profile

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Ads worth it for a GP clinic?

It can be, when ads target a tight area, name insurers and run in opening hours. A strong Business Profile often brings as many GP patients as paid clicks.

What keywords work for a GP clinic in Dubai?

Area and need: "gp near me", "doctor open now deira", "family doctor jumeirah", "walk in clinic al barsha". Keep them tight to your neighbourhood.

Why do I get calls asking about visa medicals?

Visa medical and fitness searches match loose "clinic" and "medical" keywords. Add negatives unless you offer the service.

Should GP ads mention prices?

For insured patients, insurers matter more. For self-pay patients, a consultation price with conditions can help. Any price must be accurate under DHA rules.
