Dermatology Google Ads Getting Irrelevant Leads? Fix It
Dermatology Google Ads in Dubai bringing product shoppers, symptom researchers and job seekers? Split medical and cosmetic, add negatives and tighten targeting.
Access One is the healthcare-only Google Ads agency in Dubai and a Google Partner. This is the order we check a UAE dermatology account in when this problem comes up. By Youssef Hajri, Founder.
Dermatology ads in Dubai attract four kinds of people who will not book: skincare product shoppers ("best cream for acne"), symptom researchers ("eczema pictures"), job seekers and students ("dermatologist salary UAE"), and insured patients looking for a provider you are not networked with. Fix it by splitting medical and cosmetic dermatology into separate campaigns, adding product, research, job and drug-name negatives, using phrase and exact match, and putting insurers and prices in the ad so the wrong people skip the click.

Quick diagnosis checklist
Look at last month's search terms with these questions in mind.
- Medical dermatology (acne, eczema, psoriasis, moles) and cosmetic dermatology run in separate campaigns.
- Negatives cover products: cream, serum, ointment, tablets, buy, pharmacy.
- Negatives cover research: pictures, images, symptoms, causes, home remedy.
- Negatives cover jobs and study: salary, jobs, course, residency, DHA exam.
- Prescription drug names are negatives, since you cannot advertise them anyway.
- Medical ads state insurers accepted; cosmetic ads state a "from" price.
- Core keywords use phrase and exact match.
- Forms ask what the patient wants help with, so you can sort leads.
Diagnostic flowchart
- Are medical and cosmetic in separate campaigns?NoSplit them; they need different ads, pages and budgets.
- Do search terms show product or drug searches?NoAdd product and drug-name negatives.
- Do search terms show research or job searches?NoAdd research, job and study negatives.
- Do ads say who they are for (insurers or price)?NoAdd insurers or "from" prices to filter clicks.
- Clean search terms and still poor leads? Check the landing page and how the form qualifies.
The likely causes, ranked
- Medical and cosmetic mixed together. An insured eczema patient and a self-pay pigmentation patient need different ads. Mixed campaigns attract both and serve neither well.
- Product and pharmacy searches. "Acne cream", "best sunscreen for melasma" and drug names look like dermatology searches but are shopping searches.
- Symptom research. "Psoriasis pictures" and "eczema causes" are information searches, often far from booking.
- Job and study searches. "Dermatologist jobs Dubai", "dermatology residency UAE" and licensing searches.
- Insurance mismatch. An insured patient who finds out you are not in their network leaves after the call.
How to fix it, step by step
1. Split the account
| Campaign | Example keywords | Ad promise |
|---|---|---|
| Medical dermatology | "dermatologist for acne dubai", "eczema specialist", "mole check" | Next available appointment, insurers accepted |
| Cosmetic dermatology | "pigmentation treatment dubai", "acne scar treatment", "chemical peel" | Named dermatologist, "from" price |
| Brand | Clinic and doctor names | Book directly |
2. Build negative lists
Under Tools > Shared library > Exclusion lists (Google's guide), create lists and attach them to every dermatology campaign:
- Products: cream, creams, serum, ointment, gel, tablets, buy, pharmacy, "over the counter", brand names of skincare products.
- Drug names: isotretinoin, tretinoin and other prescription terms. Google does not allow promoting them in the UAE (October 2025 update), so you do not want those searches anyway.
- Research: pictures, images, symptoms, causes, "home remedy", "natural treatment", reddit.
- Jobs and study: jobs, salary, vacancy, residency, course, "dha exam", license, licence.
Negatives do not cover plurals or synonyms, so add both (about negative keywords).
3. Review search terms weekly
Go to Campaigns > Insights and reports > Search terms (Google's report). Sort by cost and ask one question per row: could this person book a dermatologist? Add the no's as negatives.
4. Tighten match types
Swap broad "dermatologist" and "skin clinic" for phrase and exact keywords tied to conditions and treatments. Use broad match only once negatives are solid and booked patients are tracked.
5. Filter in the ad
Medical ads: "Insurance accepted: Daman, Thiqa and Sukoon" and "Specialist Dermatologist" (if that is the licensed title). Cosmetic ads: "Pigmentation treatment prices on our page, conditions apply". People who do not fit skip the click.
6. Qualify on the form
Add one dropdown: "What would you like help with?" (acne, eczema or psoriasis, moles, hair loss, pigmentation, other). Do not ask for medical history. Use the answer to route leads and to see which campaigns bring real patients.
UAE and DHA specifics
- Insurance decides medical leads. Many medical dermatology patients book through insurance. State insurers you work with in ads and pages.
- Titles matter. Use "Specialist Dermatologist" or "Consultant Dermatologist" only if that is the licensed title. A GP offering skin treatments must not be called a dermatologist. Gulf News covered the DHA title rules in September 2026.
- No remarketing on conditions. Physical health conditions are sensitive under Google's personalized advertising policy, so you cannot retarget site visitors with acne or eczema ads. Search targeting has to be right first time.
- DHA wording. No "cure", "100%" or "immediate results" in ads, under the DHA standard.

Frequently asked questions
Why do my dermatology ads show for skincare product searches?
Broad match connects "acne treatment" with "acne cream". Add product negatives and use phrase or exact match on your core keywords.
Should medical and cosmetic dermatology share a budget?
Give each its own campaign and budget. They have different costs, values and patients, and one will otherwise starve the other.
Can I target people searching for acne medication?
No. Promoting prescription drug terms is not allowed in the UAE. Target the condition and the specialist instead.
How often should I check dermatology search terms?
Weekly for a new or changed account, then every two weeks once it is clean.
