Pharmacist Jobs in Dubai: DHA Licence, Exam, Employers and Salary

How to get pharmacist jobs in Dubai: DHA titles and PQR rules, the DHA pharmacist exam (USD 240, 60% pass), exam-exempt countries, employers and salary data.

Guide · 18 Oct 2026 · Access One

Quick answer

To work as a pharmacist in Dubai you need a DHA licence. For the Pharmacist title that means a BSc Pharmacy or PharmD plus two years of post-qualification experience, DataFlow verification and the DHA Pharmacist exam (150 questions, USD 240, pass mark 60%), unless you are licensed in an exempt country such as the UK, USA, Canada or Australia. Most jobs are in Dubai's 1,794 community pharmacies; hospital and clinical roles are fewer and usually pay more. Survey data puts most pharmacist pay at about AED 10,800 to 27,700 a month.

Pharmacist titles under DHA

DHA licenses pharmacy staff under the UAE's unified Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR). Your title decides what you can do and what you are paid.

TitleQualificationExperience
Pharmacy TechnicianDiploma in Pharmacy (at least 2 years)2 years post-qualification
PharmacistBSc Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy2 years post-qualification
Clinical PharmacistPharmD (6-year course); or BSc plus a 2-year postgraduate PharmD or master's in clinical pharmacy; or a 4-year pharmacy degree plus a UK postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy2 years, including at least 6 months in a hospital
Clinical Pharmacist (no experience route)BSc Pharmacy plus a clinical pharmacy residency of at least 2 yearsNone required
Specialized PharmacistBSc or PharmD plus a 1-year postgraduate qualification in a listed specialty, or American Board certification2 years (none with American Board)

Specialty titles include oncology, critical care, infectious diseases, paediatric, cardiology, nuclear, compounding, medication safety and ambulatory care pharmacy.

Watch out: the PQR says experience with pharmaceutical companies or as a sales representative is not accepted. Only practice experience counts towards the two years.

The DHA pharmacist licence, step by step

  1. Run the free self-assessment in Sheryan to confirm your title. See our Sheryan login guide.
  2. Start primary source verification through DataFlow. Your degree, licence and every experience letter are checked at source. See DataFlow for DHA.
  3. Book the DHA exam at Prometric, unless exempt (below). You can do this while DataFlow runs.
  4. Get Registered (AED 200). The registration, often called the eligibility letter, is valid for one year.
  5. Find a job. The employer activates your licence and pays the activation fee (AED 1,000 a year for pharmacists, depending on your contract).
  6. Visa and medical. Your employer applies for the work permit. Then you do the residency medical. See our Dubai medical fitness test guide.

Full details on each step and the full fee table are in our DHA licence guide.

The Pharmacist paper covers pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical care and disease management, medication safety, OTC medicines, compounding and calculations, toxicology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacy law and ethics, and infection control. DHA's reading list includes the APhA Complete Review for Pharmacy and Goodman and Gilman. Booking and attempts are covered in our DHA exam guide.

Who is exempt from the exam

Under the PQR, you skip the exam if you hold a valid licence and good standing certificate from one of these regulators, and either qualified within the last three years or have no practice gap since your last job:

  • UK (GPhC), Ireland (PSI), USA (any NABP member board), Canada (any NAPRA member), Australia (Pharmacy Board), New Zealand (Pharmacy Council)
  • Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, and most of Western and Northern Europe: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden

Licences from non-English-speaking countries on that list also need proof of English, such as IELTS 5.0 or OET grade C. Passing the UAE's Emirates Pharmacy Residency Entry Examination (EPREE) also exempts you.

Retail is where the volume is. A DHA report covered by Khaleej Times on 16 October 2026 counted 1,794 pharmacies in Dubai in the first half of 2026, up 6.8% on a year earlier. Large chains with Dubai branches include Aster Pharmacy, Life Pharmacy, BinSina and Supercare.

Pharmaceutical companies also hire pharmacists for medical information, regulatory and sales roles. These do not need a DHA licence, but they also do not count as experience for a DHA licence later.

Pharmacist salary in Dubai

There is no public pay scale for private pharmacists. Use these as rough guides:

SourceRoleMonthly figure (AED)
Paylab UAE surveyPharmacist, middle 80% of reports10,817 to 27,718 gross
Paylab UAE surveyPharmacist, after 5 years' experienceAbout 18,567 gross
Paylab UAE surveyPharmaceutical laboratory technician7,998 to 19,365 gross
Paylab UAE surveyMedical / pharmaceutical sales representative14,162 to 31,067 gross

Caveats. Paylab says it has fewer than 20 verified respondents for pharmacists, and its figures include bonuses. Treat these as broad ranges, not offers. In practice:

  • Clinical and specialized pharmacists in hospitals usually earn more than community pharmacists.
  • Community roles often add sales incentives, which makes the basic lower than the headline.
  • Your basic salary drives end-of-service gratuity, so compare basic as well as total.
  • Ask whether housing, transport, annual flight, health insurance and licence renewal are covered.

For doctor and dentist pay, see our doctor salary guide.

Where to find pharmacist jobs

Tips that help: put "DHA Eligible" or "DHA Licensed" and your registration number at the top of your CV. List insurance systems you have used. Mention Arabic if you speak it, because many community roles need it.

Never pay for a job offer or visa. MOHRE says employers carry recruitment costs. Our nurse jobs guide lists the common scam signs, and they apply to pharmacists too.

Pharmacist jobs in Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates

Outside Dubai you need a different licence. Abu Dhabi uses the Department of Health (see our DoH licence guide), and the Northern Emirates use MOHAP (see our MOHAP licence guide). All three follow the same PQR, and DataFlow reports can be transferred between authorities.
