Physiotherapist Jobs in Dubai: DHA Licence, Employers, Salary and Home Physio
Physiotherapist jobs in Dubai: DHA licence rules, the DHA physio exam (USD 240, 50% pass), exempt countries, employers, salary data and home physio demand.
To work as a physiotherapist in Dubai you need a DHA licence: a BSc in Physiotherapy (or a direct-entry MSc) plus two years of experience, DataFlow verification and the DHA Physiotherapist exam (150 questions, USD 240, pass mark 50%). You skip the exam if you are licensed in an exempt country, such as the UK (HCPC), Australia or Canada, or have passed the US NPTE. Jobs are in hospitals, rehab centres, outpatient clinics, sports settings and a fast-growing home care sector. Survey data puts most physiotherapist pay at about AED 7,200 to 21,600 a month.

Physiotherapy titles under DHA
DHA licenses physiotherapy staff under the UAE's unified Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR):
| Title | Qualification | Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Physiotherapist | BSc in Physiotherapy or Physical Therapy, or direct entry to a recognised MSc in Physiotherapy | 2 years post-qualification |
| Physiotherapy Technician | Diploma or associate degree in physiotherapy or physical therapy (at least 2 years) | 2 years post-qualification |
| Sport / Exercise Therapist | Bachelor's in exercise or sport therapy, or equivalent | 2 years post-qualification |
| Massage Therapist (DHA only) | At least 500 hours of massage therapy training plus valid BLS | 2 years post-qualification |
DHA's physiotherapy standard says physiotherapy services must be delivered only by people holding the protected title of physiotherapist or physical therapist. A sport therapist or massage therapist licence does not let you provide physiotherapy.
The DHA physiotherapist licence, step by step
- Self-assessment in Sheryan to confirm your title. See our Sheryan login guide.
- DataFlow verification of your degree, licence and each experience letter. Experience letters need exact dates and your job title. See DataFlow for DHA.
- DHA exam at Prometric, unless you are exempt. It can run in parallel with DataFlow.
- Get Registered (AED 200). Your registration (the "eligibility letter") is valid for one year.
- Job offer and activation. The facility activates your licence. Activation for allied health is AED 1,000 a year, usually paid by the employer.
- Visa and medical. Health facility workers are also screened for hepatitis B and syphilis. See our Dubai medical fitness test guide.
Fees and timings for every step are in our DHA licence guide.
The DHA physiotherapy exams
From DHA's CBT exam guideline:
| Exam | Code | Questions / time | Fee | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physiotherapist | PHY5121 | 150 / 3 hours | USD 240 | 50% |
| Physiotherapy Technician | PHY4011 | 150 / 3 hours | USD 240 | 50% |
Topics: kinesiology, biomechanics and ergonomics; anatomy and physiology; clinical decision making and differential diagnosis; electrotherapy and hydrotherapy; therapeutic exercise; musculoskeletal, neuro, cardiopulmonary and sports physiotherapy; and special populations (obstetrics, paediatrics, geriatrics). DHA's reading list includes Kisner's Therapeutic Exercise, Tidy's Physiotherapy and Physiotherapy Secrets. More on booking and attempts in our DHA exam guide.
Who is exempt from the exam
Under the PQR, you skip the exam if you hold a valid licence and good standing certificate from one of these regulators, and either qualified within the last three years or have no practice gap:
- UK (HCPC), Ireland (Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists), USA, Canada (any member of the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators), Australia (Physiotherapy Board), New Zealand (Physiotherapy Board), South Africa (HPCSA), Singapore
- Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland
A pass in the US National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) also exempts you. Licences from non-English-speaking countries on the list need proof of English, such as IELTS 5.0 or OET grade C. The exemption covers the exam only. You still need DataFlow and the experience requirement.
Who hires physiotherapists in Dubai
DHA's Standards for Physiotherapy Services (2023) allow physiotherapy in a wide range of settings:
| Setting | What the work looks like |
|---|---|
| Hospitals | Inpatient and ICU respiratory work, post-surgical rehab, outpatient orthopaedics |
| Rehabilitation centres and long-term care | Neuro rehab, stroke, spinal cord injury, older adults |
| Outpatient clinics and polyclinics | Back and neck pain, sports injuries, post-op knees and shoulders |
| Home care (domiciliary) | Post-discharge rehab, elderly mobility, stroke and post-surgery patients at home |
| Sports clubs, fitness centres, schools and universities | Injury prevention, pitch-side care, return to play |
| Centres for people of determination, child development centres | Paediatric and developmental physiotherapy |
| Occupational health and palliative care | Workplace injury, comfort-focused care |
In inpatient care, the referring doctor stays the most responsible practitioner. Where patients come by direct access or self-referral, the physiotherapist is the most responsible practitioner. That makes clinical reasoning and documentation central in outpatient and home roles.
Home physiotherapy: where the growth is
Home care is Dubai's fastest-growing part of the health sector. A DHA report covered by Khaleej Times on 16 October 2026 counted 249 licensed home care facilities in the first half of 2026, up 22.7% from 203 a year earlier. The Dubai Media Office put the count at 222 home healthcare centres for 2025.
DHA's Standards for Home Healthcare Services (in force since February 2025) name the physiotherapist and physiotherapist assistant as part of the home care team. One of the eligibility grounds for home care is a patient who needs rehabilitation such as physical therapy. In practice that means:
- Your DHA licence is activated by a licensed facility, so home visits are made through a DHA-licensed home healthcare provider, not as a private individual.
- Expect driving between visits in your own or a company car. Ask who pays fuel and parking.
- Pay structures vary. Some home care roles add per-visit or target incentives to a base. Get the formula in writing.
- Documentation is checked. Home care facilities are inspected against DHA checklists.
Experience in neuro rehab, geriatrics, post-orthopaedic surgery or cardiopulmonary care is especially useful for home roles.
Physiotherapist salary in Dubai
No public pay scale covers private-sector physiotherapists. These are survey figures, not offers:
| Source | Measure | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| Paylab UAE survey | Physiotherapist, middle 80% of reports | AED 7,153 to 21,601 a month gross |
| Paylab UAE survey | Physiotherapist, after 5 years' experience | About AED 15,246 a month gross |
| PayScale, Dubai | Physiotherapist, median base | AED 90,000 a year (8 profiles, updated October 2025) |
| Paylab UAE survey | Masseur | AED 7,501 to 14,714 a month gross |
Caveats. Paylab has fewer than 20 verified physiotherapist responses and includes bonuses. PayScale's figure rests on eight profiles. Pay rises with specialism (neuro, paediatrics, sports, women's health), senior or lead roles, and UK, Australian or North American training. Compare basic salary as well as total, since gratuity is calculated on basic.
Where to find physiotherapy jobs
- DHA Opportunities platform (Sheryan): has an allied health category with vacancies from licensed facilities.
- Dubai Health careers: government hospitals and rehab services.
- Mediclinic Middle East and Aster DM Healthcare careers portals.
- Home care companies: apply on each company's own website. Check it is DHA-licensed before you sign.
CV tips: show "DHA Eligible" with your registration number, list caseload types and outcome measures, and name the modalities you are certified in (dry needling, manual therapy, vestibular, pelvic health). Never pay for an offer or visa. See the scam checklist in our nurse jobs guide.
Once licensed, physiotherapists need 10 CPD points a year to renew. See our DHA licence renewal guide.
Frequently asked questions
How can a physiotherapist get a job in Dubai?
Get DHA-eligible first: self-assessment, DataFlow verification, the DHA Physiotherapist exam (unless exempt) and registration. Then apply through Sheryan Opportunities, Dubai Health and hospital groups' portals.
What is the DHA physiotherapy exam pass mark?
50%. The exam has 150 questions in 3 hours and costs USD 240. The Physiotherapy Technician exam has the same format and pass mark.
Can a UK physiotherapist work in Dubai without the DHA exam?
Yes, with a valid HCPC registration and good standing certificate, if you qualified in the last three years or have no practice gap. You still need DataFlow and two years of experience.
How much does a physiotherapist earn in Dubai?
Paylab's UAE survey shows most physiotherapists earning about AED 7,200 to 21,600 a month gross, and around AED 15,200 after five years. Specialists and senior staff earn more.
Can I work as a freelance home physiotherapist in Dubai?
DHA licences are activated by a licensed facility, so home physiotherapy is delivered through DHA-licensed home healthcare providers. If you want to work independently, the route is to set up or join a licensed facility, not to visit patients privately.
Do fresh physiotherapy graduates get DHA licences?
Not for the Physiotherapist title. The PQR asks for two years of post-qualification experience.
