Google Ads or Meta ads: which is better for a clinic?
Google Ads vs Meta ads for clinics: intent, 2026 benchmarks, health ad restrictions on each, DHA rules, and which to use by type of practice in Dubai.
For most clinics, Google Ads is better to start with, because it reaches people who are already searching for a treatment near them and ready to book. Meta ads (Facebook and Instagram) are better at creating demand for visual, elective services such as aesthetics, hair removal, salons and dental makeovers, and usually bring cheaper but less ready-to-book leads. Start with Google Search, get tracking working, then add Meta if your treatments sell on visuals. Both have health ad restrictions, and DHA advertising rules apply to both.

The core difference: demand capture vs demand creation
On Google, the patient makes the first move. They type "root canal dentist Al Barsha" or "home nurse Dubai" and your ad answers. On Meta, you make the first move. Your ad interrupts someone scrolling Instagram who was not looking for you. That one difference explains cost, lead quality and which clinics win on each platform.
Side by side
| Google Ads (Search) | Meta ads (Facebook, Instagram) | |
|---|---|---|
| Patient intent | High: actively searching | Low to medium: browsing |
| Best for | Urgent and need-based care, specialists, home healthcare | Elective, visual treatments, offers, new clinic launches |
| Targeting | Keywords, location, schedule | Location, age, broad interests, creative |
| Health remarketing | Not allowed for health ads | Limited by Meta's health data restrictions |
| Typical lead | Call or booking request | Instant form, Instagram DM, WhatsApp |
| Creative needed | Text ads, landing page | Photos and video, refreshed often |
What the benchmarks say
Both data sets come from LocaliQ and WordStream, mostly US accounts, in US dollars. Use them to compare platforms, not to forecast Dubai prices.
| Industry | Google Search CPC | Google Search cost per lead | Meta lead campaign CPC | Meta cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dentists and dental services | $8.00 | $72.97 | $5.70 | $61.56 |
| Physicians and surgeons | $4.76 | $40.04 | $1.68 | $32.14 |
| Beauty and personal care | $4.62 | $39.25 | $2.97 | $50.91 |

Meta leads look cheaper for dentists and doctors. But a Meta lead is often a form filled in on impulse, and more of them never answer the phone. Compare platforms on cost per booked patient, which you only get with proper conversion tracking on both.
Health restrictions on each platform
- No remarketing lists, Customer Match or lookalikes for ads about conditions, treatments or procedures, under the health in personalised advertising policy.
- No promotion of prescription drug terms outside the US, Canada and New Zealand, under the healthcare and medicines policy.
Meta
- Since early 2025, Meta has been restricting the data health and wellness advertisers can share and optimise on. Depending on how your account is classified, URL details and custom parameters may be stripped, and optimising for lower-funnel events can be blocked. Search Engine Land explains the tiers and notes they can vary by country or region.
- Ad text cannot assert or imply someone's personal attributes, including health, under Meta's personal attributes policy. "Suffering from back pain?" gets rejected. "Physiotherapy in Dubai Marina" does not.
Dubai rules apply to both
The DHA medical advertisement standard was written for social media. It bans claims such as "the best", "100%" and "no side effects". Before-and-after photos must be the same person, unedited, with a disclaimer, and patients must give written consent. Clinics are also liable for influencer content filmed on their premises, as Gulf News summarised.
Which to use, by type of practice
| Practice | Lead with | Add |
|---|---|---|
| General dental, emergency dental | Google Search | Meta for brand awareness near the clinic |
| Implants, aligners, veneers | Google Search | Meta video with consented cases and doctor explainers |
| Aesthetic and dermatology clinics | Both from the start | Google for "consultation" searches, Meta for visual treatments |
| Specialists (ortho, gynae, paediatrics) | Google Search | Little need for Meta at first |
| Home healthcare, home nursing | Google Search | Meta for awareness among adult children of older parents |
| Salons and spas | Meta and Google Maps | Google Search for "near me" service searches |
A sensible way to run both
- Start with Google Search on your 2 to 3 highest-value treatments. See how to start Google Ads for a clinic.
- Track calls, WhatsApp, forms and bookings from both platforms with neutral event names. Never put conditions in URLs.
- Once Google brings steady bookings, test Meta with a fixed test budget for 4 to 6 weeks.
- Call Meta leads within minutes. Speed matters more there than on Google.
- Compare cost per booked patient, then shift budget to whichever wins for each treatment.

Frequently asked questions
Are Facebook ads good for dental clinics?
For cosmetic dentistry and aligners, often yes, with strong video and consented cases. For emergency and routine dental care, Google Search usually books patients more reliably.
Why are Meta leads cheaper but fewer of them book?
Meta reaches people who were not looking for a clinic. Instant forms are quick to submit, so more leads are curious rather than ready to book. Judge on cost per booking.
Can I retarget website visitors for my clinic?
On Google, not for health treatment ads. On Meta, health data restrictions can limit what your pixel shares. Plan campaigns that work without retargeting.
Can I use before-and-after photos in ads in Dubai?
Under the DHA standard, only with written patient consent, the same person, no editing and a "results may vary" disclaimer. Platform policies may add further limits.
How should I split my budget between Google and Meta?
Start mostly on Google Search. Move money to Meta only after a test shows a comparable cost per booked patient for that treatment.
