What is a good cost per lead for a clinic?
What is a good cost per lead for a clinic? 2026 benchmarks in USD and AED, a formula for your own maximum, worked Dubai examples and ways the number misleads.
A good cost per lead for a clinic is one that keeps your cost per booked patient well below what that patient is worth to you. As a benchmark, LocaliQ's 2026 search data puts average cost per lead at about $40 (AED 147) for physicians and surgeons, $73 (AED 268) for dentists and $67 (AED 245) across all industries. Dubai treatment keywords often cost more. Work out your own ceiling: patient value × booking rate × show rate, and stay under it.

The benchmarks
LocaliQ's 2026 search advertising benchmarks come from thousands of its customers' campaigns, mostly in the US. Use them as a sanity check, not a UAE price list. Dirham figures use the fixed rate of 3.6725.
| Category | Avg CPC | Conversion rate | Cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physicians and surgeons | $4.76 | 12.43% | $40.04 (AED 147) |
| Beauty and personal care | $4.62 | 10.35% | $39.25 (AED 144) |
| Personal services | $7.17 | 12.34% | $54.60 (AED 201) |
| Health and fitness | $6.17 | 6.94% | $67.36 (AED 247) |
| Dentists and dental services | $8.00 | 10.67% | $72.97 (AED 268) |
| All industries | $5.42 | 8.18% | $66.69 (AED 245) |
Two warnings. First, a "lead" in these figures is whatever each advertiser counted, which may include form fills and call clicks of mixed quality. Second, in Dubai, high-value searches such as implants, hair transplants and home nursing often cost more per click because many clinics compete in a small area. See why Google Ads is so expensive.
Work out your own maximum cost per lead
A benchmark cannot tell you if AED 300 a lead is cheap or ruinous. Your numbers can. Follow these steps:
- Find the value of a new patient. Use first-year revenue for that treatment, then take your gross margin. A course of 8 physio sessions at AED 400 is AED 3,200 revenue. At a 50% margin, AED 1,600 is the value.
- Decide how much of that you will spend to win the patient. Many clinics choose 20% to 40% of first-year margin, more if patients return for years. Say 30%: AED 480 per new patient.
- Measure your booking rate. Leads that become booked appointments. Say 50%.
- Measure your show rate. Booked patients who arrive. Say 80%.
- Multiply. Max cost per lead = AED 480 × 0.5 × 0.8 = AED 192.
Same maths for other services (worked examples, not market data):
| Service | Allowed cost per patient | Booking × show rate | Max cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| GP walk-in visit | AED 100 | 60% × 85% | AED 51 |
| Physio course | AED 480 | 50% × 80% | AED 192 |
| Dental implant | AED 1,500 | 35% × 80% | AED 420 |
| Hair transplant | AED 2,500 | 25% × 85% | AED 531 |
Notice how much the booking rate matters. Moving reception from 35% to 50% booked raises the implant ceiling from AED 420 to AED 600 without touching the ads.
Five reasons your cost per lead is misleading
- You count the wrong things. Page views, button taps or 5-second calls counted as leads make cost per lead look great and mean nothing. Fix it with conversion tracking.
- Calls are invisible. In the UAE, Google forwarding numbers are not available, so call leads are easy to miss or double count. See how to track phone calls from Google Ads in the UAE.
- Lead quality varies by keyword. "Free check-up" and "cheap" searches give low cost per lead and low booking rates. Judge by cost per booked patient. More in bad quality leads from Google Ads.
- The sample is too small. Ten leads is not a trend. Judge a campaign after at least 30 to 50 leads, or a full month.
- Brand campaigns flatter the average. Searches for your own clinic name are cheap. Report brand and non-brand cost per lead separately.
If your cost per lead is too high
Check in this order: tracking, search terms and negatives, location setting (Presence, not interest), landing page match, then bidding. The full checklist is in how to reduce cost per lead. To set budget from these numbers, read how much a clinic should spend on Google Ads. Once tracking is clean and conversions are steady each month, Target CPA bidding can hold cost per lead near your ceiling.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good cost per lead for a dental clinic?
LocaliQ's 2026 benchmark for dentists is about $73 (AED 268). In Dubai, implant and aligner leads often cost more and can still be profitable because each patient is worth more. Use your own maximum from patient value and booking rate.
What is the difference between cost per lead and cost per acquisition?
Cost per lead counts enquiries. Cost per acquisition, for a clinic, should mean cost per booked or attended patient. Divide cost per lead by booking rate and show rate to get it.
Is AED 100 per lead good?
It depends on what the lead is worth. For a GP visit it may be too high; for implants, hair transplants or home nursing it is usually low. Check your booking rate before deciding.
Why did my cost per lead suddenly go up?
Usually a tracking break, new competitors, a budget or bid change, a landing page change, or seasonality such as summer and Ramadan. Check conversion tracking first. See why Google Ads stopped getting leads.
Should WhatsApp messages count as leads?
Count a WhatsApp click as a secondary signal and a real conversation as the lead. Otherwise accidental taps inflate your numbers.
