How do I get more patients for a psychology or mental health clinic?
How UAE psychology and mental health clinics get more patients: Search-first ads, Google's sensitive-category limits on remarketing, rehab ad rules and privacy.
To get more patients for a psychology or mental health clinic in the UAE, build on Google Search: people type exactly what they need, such as "psychologist Dubai", "therapist for anxiety" or "child psychologist Abu Dhabi". Google treats mental health as a sensitive health category, so remarketing lists, Customer Match and lookalike audiences are not available, and drug and alcohol rehab ads are not allowed in the UAE. Win with clear therapist profiles, private and fast booking, respectful ad copy and good Google reviews.

What Google allows for mental health ads
Mental health ads are allowed. Targeting is limited. Google's health in personalised advertising policy names "counseling services for mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and addiction" as an example of the sensitive Health category. For those ads:
| Feature | Can you use it? |
|---|---|
| Search keywords | Yes. This is your main channel. |
| Customer Match (uploaded patient lists) | No |
| Your data segments (remarketing to site visitors) | No |
| Lookalike segments and audience expansion | No |
| Google's predefined audiences (in-market, affinity, demographics, location) | Yes, with some exceptions |
| Custom segments | Only on Display to non-sensitive audiences or contextually; other campaign types will not serve |
Related sensitive categories also apply. Google's restricted targeting list includes "Abuse and trauma" and "Relationship hardships", which cover trauma therapy and couples counselling ads.
Addiction treatment is different. Google's healthcare and medicines policy restricts recovery-oriented drug and alcohol addiction services. It allows them only in a few countries: the US and Canada with LegitScript certification, and Australia, France, Ireland and New Zealand for government entities. The UAE is not on the list, so do not build campaigns around rehab or detox keywords.
Meta is similar. It removed detailed targeting based on health topics on 19 January 2022. Compare the two in Google Ads vs Meta Ads for clinics.
The 8-step plan
- Show each clinician clearly. Licensed title exactly as on the DHA, DoH or MOHAP licence (psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, counsellor and so on), approach (CBT, EMDR, family therapy), age groups, languages and whether they offer online sessions. Patients choose a person, not a clinic.
- One page per need. Anxiety, depression, ADHD and autism assessments, child and teen therapy, couples counselling, workplace stress. Say who it is for, how the first session works, how many sessions are typical, fees and insurance.
- Search ads by need and by profession. Ad groups for "psychologist [city]", "therapist near me", "online therapy UAE", "Arabic speaking therapist", "child psychologist" and "psychiatrist [city]". Add negatives: jobs, salary, course, degree, free, definition, test online. See negative keywords.
- Write calm, respectful ads. Talk about the service, not the reader's condition. "Confidential therapy with licensed psychologists" works better than "Are you depressed?". No promises of cure or results; the DHA advertising standard bans misleading claims.
- Make booking private and easy. Online booking, a WhatsApp option, a named intake coordinator and a clear note on confidentiality. Patients have privacy rights under the UAE's Federal Law No. 10 of 2023 on Mental Health. Google lead form assets are not available for healthcare (lead form requirements).
- Keep health data out of tracking. Track bookings and calls, but never send conditions or names in URLs, conversion values or form fields that go to Google. See conversion tracking and call tracking.
- Use your Business Profile. Accurate categories, hours, online-session details and photos of the rooms. Ask for reviews with a link, no incentives (review policy). Many patients will not leave one, so ask everyone who is comfortable.
- Grow referrals. GPs, paediatricians, schools and HR teams send steady patients. A one-page referral guide and fast feedback to the referrer often beat any ad.
What it costs
There is no public UAE benchmark for therapy clinics. LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks (mostly US) put physicians and surgeons at a $40.04 cost per lead (about AED 147) and the all-industry average at $66.69 (about AED 245). Therapy patients often stay for several sessions, so judge cost per lead against patient value, not the first session fee. Example only: if a new patient is worth AED 2,000 over their course and you will spend AED 500 to win one, with 1 in 3 enquiries booking, you can afford about AED 165 per lead. Run yours with what is a good cost per lead for a clinic.

Frequently asked questions
Can I run remarketing ads for my therapy clinic?
No. Mental health is a sensitive health category, so remarketing lists, Customer Match and lookalikes are not supported. Rely on search keywords and Google's predefined audiences.
Can I advertise addiction or rehab services in the UAE on Google?
Not recovery-oriented drug and alcohol addiction services. Google allows those only in a few countries, and the UAE is not one of them.
Should I advertise online therapy across the UAE?
Only where your clinicians are licensed to practise and your telehealth permissions allow it. Target the emirates you are licensed for.
Why are my mental health ads getting clicks but no bookings?
Usually vague therapist pages, no fees shown or a slow reply. See clicks but no leads.
